English Classes in Manrique

“Providing opportunities through the learning of the English Language”.

  1. Introduction:

Our foundation’s primary purpose is to empower and transform vulnerable communities through the art of the English Language, therefore, providing additional tools for children’s personal and professional development.

Education is one of the most important pillars in a child’s growth and as a foundation, we strongly believe that everyone is entitled to such opportunity, we are happy that we can bring these tools to the children of our foundation and contribute to their future.

  1. Projects objectives:

General Objective: Our general objective or purpose is to generate interests in other activities that could be beneficial to the physiological and emotional development of our children. Therefore, steering them in a different path different than that of violence and drugs and promote more opportunities for their future.

Specific Objectives:

-          Empower children to learn the English Language, most specifically conversational English that will be of everyday use.

-          Create interest and motivation in learning a second language.

-          Provide opportunities for personal and academic growth though the domain of the English Language.

-          Learn vocabulary that they will be able to implement in their lives.

  1. Description of our English Classes:

The primary focus of these English Classes is to teach the children vocabulary, sentences, information related to their everyday life so that it can be practical and they can also find interesting. In order to do so our classes are centered in providing dynamic, fun but instructive classes. These English classes are construed according to the children’s learning levels, capacity and interests, always focusing on building and creating together and making sure, no children is left behind, working according to their pace level.

With that, our English classes are developed in a way that allows our children to always be involved, the teacher creates the content of the class, but it is the children that guide the course of the class, according to their participation and interests.

As a foundation, it is very important for us that each goal reached by our children is recognized and our classes are built on this. Activities such as acknowledging their personal goals are often encouraged.

  1. Benefits and expected impact:

As a foundation we strongly believe that the English language can open doors for our children that they previously did not have due to their vulnerability, we hope to continue working for  our children so that we create the ideal conditions to break the cycle of poverty by developing their talents.

In addition, our English program will strives to encourage the development higher self-esteem, higher social abilities like team-work, leadership and critical thinking among our children. As an organization we desire to promote among our children love for learning, love for having a second language and love for doing something new, exploring different paths than those common to the “Manrique” sector.

  1. Evaluation and Follow throughs:

In order to evaluate the children’s capacity and learning growth, we propose dynamic activities and exercises where such is evaluated. This can be in the form of verbal exams, written or turning in projects on a subject that was previously taught in class. As a huge part of our evaluation, the children’s attendance and compromise with this project will be analyzed and considered in the academic environment. As a foundation we have the purpose to change from within so that they are able to accomplish their goals through discipline and consistency.

  1. Project’s sustainability and continuity:

In order for us to ensure the project’s sustainability our plan is to have minimum three volunteers to accompany the English teacher support our children in Manrique. The reason behind this is to make sure each child receives the necessary attention to learn and also so that the volunteers can assist the teacher Carolina with the preparation of materials needed for the class. Furthermore, to guarantee the continuity of this project, our goal is to find donors who can commit to a monthly donation to providing the necessary materials that we need to carry out our classes. We are hoping that our English Program is of interest to other partners such as Universities who can sponsor our children in this journey.

  1. Conclusion:

With our program, “English for a dream” we hope to create and generate new opportunities for vulnerable communities and also ensure that the children of Manrique can have the possibility to develop new abilities and dream higher and direct them in a different path away from common problematics of the sector in which they live.
